Joe and Victoria founded Oblongata in 2021.

Over the past decade, they have solved consumer and commercial challenges for organisations of all shapes and sizes, from the S&P500 to the Australian Outback.

Joe Hicks

Head of Strategy

Joe is what happens when an unusually-enthusiastic numbers guy stops reconciling financials and starts trying to reconcile the universe. He's obsessed with closing the gap between how things are and how they should be; undaunted by conventions or unknowns. His background is in science, finance and innovation, which helps him solve the human, economic and technological sides of challenges. Joe's been described as optimistic; relentlessly optimistic. He takes this as a compliment 😊.

Before co-founding Oblongata, Joe spent five years leading innovation teams at two of the world's most prestigious innovation consultancies, Fahrenheit 212 (now Frog) and ?What If! Innovation. There he cracked challenges for confectionary makers, children's learning centres, cruise ships, convenience stores, comparison sites and many more. Before that, Joe was a management consultant and transaction advisor at EY for seven years. Joe's experience spans creative and commercial challenges of all shapes and sizes, from S&P500 companies to Outback pubs.

When he isn't sleeves-up with teams or feet-up with family, you'll find Joe deciphering the models of the universe, or he'll find you to let you in on his latest discovery.

Victoria Adams

Head of Brand

Victoria is the professional embodiment of the old saying "honey catches more flies than vinegar". She is the rare kind of creative who believes creativity is as much about the inputs as it is about the outputs. This belief is reflected in her egoless, data-driven and collaborative working style. Victoria's disarming openness and humility belies her sharp intellect and instincts. It also draws people and their passion into her work; a force multiplier that brings out the best in those around her.  

For more than 12 years, Victoria has helped leader, challenger and struggler brands define their place in the world and in their customers' lives. Having worked with brands from both client and agency-side, she has learned first-hand what it takes for ideas to take root in organisations, transform customer behaviour and drive commercial impact. Her experience slices across startups and multinationals in a range of industries across the Asia Pacific and Europe, including brands like Branston's, Pauls, Deliciously Ella, Fever Tree and 12RND/UBX.  

Outside of Oblongata, Victoria likes to satisfy her creative itch through cooking, drawing and knitting and sharpen her strategy and negotiation skills with her husband and energetic toddler.
